A Word from the “Silent Partner”

Giants 1962 Programs

A “real life” NFL No.620

I just want to thank Michael for doing such a wonderful job with the cover of the book.

We are excited to have someone of his stature and talent be part of The Unforgettable Buzz.

From meager beginnings, this project has turned into a labor of love. (Some of our family members have another description – obsession.) Earl and I are glad to finally be able to tell the story of Tudor and electric football.

I am looking forward to visiting with many of you again to talk electric football.

We’ll be updating the blog regularly, so keep checking back.

Till then keep your finger on the switch!

Electric Football is Still Buzzing – Part I

Page from Sears catalog featuring Tudor Electric Football game.In the wake of Norman Sas’ passing, a lot of things have been written about electric football over the last couple of weeks. And the majority of it has been extremely positive.  From columnists, to bloggers, to the notoriously fickle and often contentious “comments” sections, the feedback and recollections of electric football have been remarkably thoughtful and heartfelt.

However, one very important thing has been missing from much of the discussion.

Electric football IS still available. (Let me say it one more time for good measure).

Electric football IS still available.

If you want to buy an electric football game, you can. Ballpark Classics bought Miggle Toys in February, creating a Tudor Games division that is now selling electric football games and teams. So if your game was long ago put in the trash, or lost in a move, you can still get a new game. And painted teams are still available (not official NFL teams, but very NFL-like).

The fact that a company called “Tudor” is still out there…it really should be a significant of part of the discussion. And the reason is simple.

It IS part of Norman Sas’ legacy.

That the game he invented is still being produced 60+ years later, that’s incredibly significant. That’s longer than Mouse Trap, longer than Life, longer than Barbie, longer than the Hula Hoop, longer than Etch-A-Sketch, longer than Play-Doh, and longer than Mr. Potato head.

It’s truly a legacy worth remembering, and one that will be fully explored in our upcoming book The Unforgettable Buzz.

Let’s hope that Tudor Games and electric football go on for another 60 years.

New Book, New Designer

We are so pleased to unveil our new cover today. It was designed by Michael Kronenberg, a graphic designer for Marvel — yes the Marvel!!

In addition to his considerable artistic talents, Michael is a truly dyed-in-the-throwback-wool-jersey electric football guy. He “sees” electric football the way we see it…only better. And he will be using his special “EF Vision” on the interior of The Unforgettable Buzz, as well.  We couldn’t have dreamed up a better designer to be working with.

Michael’s work and list of credits is impressive. He has written and designed his own book, The Batman Companion, and been involved in the design of a number of Marvel books, includingMarvel Backlist Reading Chronology and Iron Man by Design. He has also done striking design work on Les Paul in His Own Words, andNo Traveler Returns: The Lost Years of Bela Lugosi. And that’s just a very, very, very, short list of what he’s done.

Michael and I met briefly at the 2000 Electric Football Convention in D.C. through Brian Nixon (thank you Brian!). My memory is a little hazy this far out, but it just goes to show the beauty of these events. You never know who you might meet and just how your paths might cross again somewhere far down the road.

So, we’re truly honored to have Michael and his immense talent on board. It’s going to be an exciting fall!
